Sites for inspiration
Personal websites I am aiming to eventually rival in terms of complexity, thoroughness, features, and design.
Gwern
- Author: Gwern Branwen
- Built with: Hakyll
- Site: gwern.net
- Workflow:
The most impressive personal website I have ever encountered. There are so many features that it's sometimes difficult to wrap my head around.
Pluralistic
- Author: Cory Doctorow
- Built with: WordPress
- Site: pluralistic.net
- Workflow: 20 years a blogger
Styled like a newsletter, written in short paragraphs that can be federated to microblogging services like Twitter and Mastodon.
Maggie Appleton's Garden
- Author: Maggie Appleton
- Built with: Gatsby
- Site: maggieappleton.com/garden
The most beautifully-designed website on this list. What I like about it is how easy it is to distinguish between note maturity, as well as hand-drawn illustrations that accompany some of the notes.
Aaron Young's notes
- Author: Aaron Young
- Built with: oleeskild/obsidian-digital-garden
- Site: ajy.co
Uses the same underlying tech as me, except the 11ty site that it generates is much more customized. It also utilizes BookWyrm (think Goodreads, but federated) to keep track of books, which I am very tempted to replicate.
