Stack
Tools I rely on to get shit done.
For everyone
- Firefox → It gives me a sense of autonomy away from Big Tech.
- Obsidian.md → Where I take my notes and update this website.
- Readwise Reader → Where I do all my reading: blogs, newsletters, ebooks... You name it.
For power users
My OS of choice these days is Pop!_OS. I edit my files using VSCode, though I dearly miss atom.io.
- Fastmail → Easy to use, fast, and powerful email hosting. I've been using it for 5+ years with a myriad of custom domains and aliases. Never had any real issues with it that would make me want to look for an alternative.
- Raycast (on MacOS) / Ulauncher (on Linux) → Default app launchers tend to do too much and end up being awfully slow. Investing some time into an alternative launcher is, in my opinion, the biggest productivity gain you can get.
- Rectangle (Pro) → MacOS basically comes with no window management features, I couldn't imagine
For techies
- 11ty → Static site generator of choice for tiny web projects.
- GitLab → I prefer to be responsible for my own downtime, so I host my own code. I like its CI capabilities, allowing me to build websites on
git push
. - Hetzner → Decently powered dedicated servers for under €50/month. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I owe my career to them.
- k9s → For effortlessly navigating around kubernetes clusters.
- nginx → My web server / reverse proxy of choice. There are more modern options like Caddy, but I kind of stick to the industry "standard" on this one.
- Tailwind CSS → I can't be bothered to learn to write modern CSS properly, but I'm also not a complete noob that doesn't know anything about making frontends. Tailwind fills out that sweet spot.
Peripherals
- Keyboard: Razer Huntsman Tournament Edition → I don't really game, it's the only TKL I could find locally.
- Mouse: Logi MX Anywhere 3 → Feels comfortable, can operate via a dongle and via Bluetooth, and it has a USB-C rechargeable battery. The sturdiness of its mouse wheel is configurable, so if I flick it strong enough it keeps scrolling the page for quite some time after I let go. Very satisfying to do, it's like a glorified fidget spinner.
- Monitors: 2x Dell 22" → I don't remember the exact model, but they're on the budget side and not particularly good. 60 Hz, HDMI 1.4, 1920 x 1080.
Music
- Sennheiser PXC 550-II → My perfect companion for over half a decade. The battery's definitely degraded (down from 20 hours with ANC to maybe 10), but I appreciate their comfort, sound and ruggedness.
- Alesis Elevate 5 → For when I want to annoy my neighbours.
- AKAI APC 20 → A very abused MIDI controller my parents bought me a long time ago. It was a big deal for them to shell out over €200 for my hobby, so I keep it for sentimental value.
- 2x AKAI LPD8 → There to supplement the APC where it falls short. Pads are easier to press and pressure sensitive, and it contains knobs!
