Cool Obsidian plugins
Obsidian plugins I'm relying on for an extended period of time.
Must-haves
Plugins anyone could benefit from.
- Advanced Tables → Makes writing tables in Markdown a little less painful. Not painless, just less painful.
- Dataview → Use your notes as data. Create lists and tables, filter through your vault, and so much more. If you're going to install one third-party plugin, this one should be it.
- Also pay attention to Datacore, a work-in-progress successor of Dataview aiming for a friendlier, more native-like interface.
- LanguageTool → Integrates with languagetool.org, which is similar to Grammarly. Grammarly plans to shut down their API in Jan 2024, so this is your best choice on the longer run.
- Style Settings → Gives you more control over the interface. A lot of themes rely on it for changing colour schemes and other theme-related settings.
Go above and beyond
Some plugins I use to really customize my experience.
- Advanced URI → Allows control over pretty much everything inside Obsidian outside of Obsidian. Useful for integrating with other tools you already use, like a custom app launcher.
- DataLoom → The closest thing to Notion-like tables.
- Digital Garden → An alternative to Obsidian Publish that I use to make this website. See obsidian-digital-garden.
- QuickAdd → A very powerful plugin that allows me to create custom Obsidian commands. It is very difficult to describe its powers in a couple of sentences, so I'd suggest checking some of the examples on its website.
- Templater → Similar to the official Templates plugin, but a bit more dynamic. Allows your templates to manipulate variables, functions, and interact with APIs using JavaScript.
These seem cool
Plugins that seem really cool, but they don't really fit my workflow.
- Advanced Slides → Use reveal.js to create presentations. There's at least one YouTube channel with over 100k subscribers that uses this plugin to make their videos.
- Day Planner → I don't like micromanaging my tasks throughout the day with notes of very little value afterwards, but if I were into that, I'd give it a try.
- Excalidraw → If you're the type of person that likes to make sketches in your notes.
- Kanban → I much prefer a vertically scrollable list than a horizontally scrollable one, but if you're the opposite of me, give this one a try.
